BREAKING: Angry youths block Otukpo–Agatu road over fresh attack on Ondo Village
Angry youths on Tuesday blocked the busy Otukpo–Agatu Road in protest over the latest deadly attack on Ondo village in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State.
The protesters barricaded the highway with burning tyres and other objects, bringing vehicular movement to a complete standstill.
Travellers and motorists were stranded for hours as the demonstrators demanded urgent government intervention to halt the recurring attacks on communities in Benue South.
The protest followed a fresh attack on Ondo village by suspected armed herdsmen, which left several people feared dead and many others injured.
Eyewitnesses said the youths, angered by the continuous killings, insisted they would not leave the road until government authorities addressed their concerns and deployed adequate security to the affected communities.
The latest attack comes barely days after suspected armed herdsmen launched deadly assaults on Akpachi in Ugboju and neighbouring Otukpo-Nobi communities, where scores of residents were killed, triggering widespread outrage across Benue South.
As of the time of filing this report, no security official had addressed the protesters, while traffic remained at a standstill along the Otukpo–Agatu highway.
