Benue 2027: Deputy Speaker Lami celebrates primary victory with constituents

The Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Lami Danladi Ogenyi, has celebrated her victory in the just-concluded primary election with constituents of Ado State Constituency.

Ogenyi, who represents Ado State Constituency in the Assembly, also distributed thousands of wrappers, sanitary pads and bags of fertiliser to constituents during the celebration.

According to a statement by her Press Secretary, Agbaji Samuel Atsonwu, the gesture was aimed at addressing some of the immediate needs of constituents, promoting the welfare of girls and supporting agricultural productivity in the area.

Speaking at the event, Ogenyi thanked the people of Ado State Constituency for their support throughout the primary election process and for the confidence they had continued to repose in her leadership.

The Deputy Speaker, who holds the traditional title of Onyawole K’Idoma, alleged that some political figures attempted to stop her from securing her party’s ticket through what she described as falsehoods, blackmail and unfounded allegations.

She also expressed appreciation to Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for his support and confidence in her.

According to Ogenyi, her political strength remains rooted in the grassroots, adding that her relationship with constituents is built on trust, accessibility and service.

She said the support she had continued to receive from the people despite political opposition had strengthened her resolve to remain connected to them and contribute to their welfare.

“My friends are, and will always remain, the grassroots. You have stood by me, believed in me and refused to be deceived. I will continue to appreciate this love by doing more for you and remaining committed to your welfare and development,” she said.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the Lami/Alia Campaign Organisation in Ado, Hon. Andrew Odumu, thanked supporters for their loyalty and support for the Deputy Speaker.

Odumu urged them to sustain the momentum ahead of the 2027 general election and replicate the support they gave Ogenyi during the 2023 election.

He described her victory in the primary election as another stage in the political journey ahead of 2027 and called on supporters to remain united and focused.
