Roads: NANS begins N’East tour, assesses routes serving tertiary institutions

The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS has extended its nationwide inspection of federal road projects to the North-East.

The group is focusing on roads that connect tertiary institutions across the region.

NANS worked with the National Association of University Students NAUS, National Association of Polytechnic Students NAPS and National Association of Colleges of Education Students NANCES during the inspection.

The delegation examined the Jamare-Azare and Potiskum-Maiduguri roads in Bauchi State.

The inspection forms part of the students’ nationwide tour of federal road projects.

The exercise seeks to assess road conditions and their effect on students’ daily movement.

NANS President Babatunde Afeez Akinteye led the delegation.

He said the inspected routes serve several tertiary institutions in the area.

They include the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State University and Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare.

Akinteye said students use the roads regularly to travel between their homes and campuses.

He described their condition as an important concern for students in the region.

Akinteye said the inspected projects had reached completion.

He added that the delegation found the roads to meet the required standards.

The NANS president commended Works Minister David Umahi for his role in federal road development.
