Deji Adeyanju condemns attack on Sowore in Ekiti, demands probe
Abuja-based lawyer and civil rights advocate, Deji Adeyanju, has condemned the reported attack on Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in Ekiti State, describing the incident as an act of violence and political intimidation.
Adeyanju also expressed concern over reports that the police officer attached to Sowore was disarmed during the incident.
In a statement, the lawyer called on relevant security agencies to investigate the attack, ensure Sowore’s safety and prosecute those found responsible.
He described the incident as unacceptable in a democratic society, insisting that political differences should not be used as a justification for violence.
Adeyanju said he received information about the incident from one of Sowore’s aides, prompting him to express concern over the circumstances surrounding the attack.
He urged security agencies to act swiftly to establish the facts of the incident and ensure that those involved are brought to justice.
The lawyer further stressed the need to protect political actors from intimidation and violence, noting that such incidents have no place in a democracy.
