One dead as alleged 7/7 cult celebration turns bloody in Apa, Benue
The family House of late District Head of Ugbokpo and Clan Head of Adija, Chief Joseph Adama was on Wednesday, 7th July, 2021 burnt down by arsonists over an alleged rivalry cult clashes that resulted in the death of one and left another injured.
Eyewitness account revealed that the wife of a late monarch identities as Ene Adama, who sustained a serious injury and now receiving treatment, only escaped being set ablaze with her entire household by the assistance of security personnel.
Efforts by personnel of Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps deplored to prevent the attack proved abortive as the irate mob resisted all entities and carried out the action alleging that the murder was committed by one of the sons of the late Chief.
The said event which occurred at Ugbokpo town was said to be a shootout by two rival cult groups on the celebration of “7/7 Confraternity Day” usually marked on 7th July, every year in Nigeria.
A resident of the area told newsmen that rather than allowing the Police who were on top of the situation do their job by fishing out those involved in the dastardly act, “the arsonists took the law into their hands.”
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police is presently carrying out investigation into the matter to fetch out the suspects of the murder and arson crimes.
However, normalcy has been restored to the troubled area as at today.
