Akwa Ibom: Man arrested for allegedly killing wife over infidelity

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 42-year-old Victor Okoh in Oron, Akwa Ibom State, for the alleged brutal murder of his wife, 38-year-old Victoria Okoh.
In a statement issued on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, revealed that officers responded to a distress call from concerned residents at about 5:20 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the mutilated body of the deceased outside the couple’s residence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly attacked his wife with a machete following accusations of infidelity. Reports further suggest that he attempted to evade arrest by hiding in the ceiling of their home. However, police operatives tactically secured the building, forced entry, and successfully apprehended him.
“The machete used in committing the crime was recovered, and photographs of the scene were taken for investigation purposes,” the police spokesperson stated.
The victim’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital Morgue for autopsy, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, strongly condemned the killing and assured the public that justice would be served. He also warned against domestic violence, urging residents to seek lawful means of resolving disputes instead of resorting to violence.
“The command remains committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens and urges the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation,” the statement added.
