American music star, Rakim Allen, AKA PnB Rock was shot during a robbery at a restaurant in Los Angeles and died subsequently.

According to Los Angeles Times, the musician visited the Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles restaurant in South Los Angeles with his girlfriend on Monday.

The rapper’s girlfriend was said to have briefly shared a location-tagged photo on Instagram but took the post down shortly after.

Kelly Muniz, an officer with the Los Angeles police department, said the shooting occurred at about 1:15 pm when a yet-to-disclosed suspect attacked Rock with a brandished firearm.

The suspect was said to have targeted the ‘Selfish’ crooner for his jewelry.

Muniz said the assailant later opened fire on the 30-year-old rapper before fleeing the scene.

“He shot the victim and ran out the side door to a getaway car and then fled the parking lot,” the officer said.

The rapper was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead around 1:59 pm.

Rock was born in 1991 in Philadelphia and started his music career at 19. He gained prominence after releasing ‘Catch These Vibes’ and ‘TrapStar Turnt PopStar’, his two hit albums.

His death has continued to elicit reactions from several prominent figures.

In a Twitter post, Cardi B took a swipe at those blaming the rapper’s death on his girlfriend.

“I highly doubt nikkas was looking at PMB’s babymom IG. He was in a bad location and people stay outside plotting. It’s very irresponsible and inconsiderate to blame her for something so tragic. We should be sending nothing but love to her and his family at this time,” she wrote.

On her part, Nicki Minaj wrote: “After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts. To show waffles & some fried chicken????! He was such a pleasure to work with. Condolences to his mom & family. This makes me feel so sick. Jesus. #SIP #PnbRock.”
