The Ondo State Security Network Agency, commonly known as the Amotekun Corps, has disclosed that over the course of three weeks, at least 20 commercial motorcycle riders, known as Okada riders, have tragically lost their lives to criminal activities in the state.

Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, conveyed this disturbing information to the press, emphasizing that these riders fell victim to criminals attempting to hijack their motorcycles.

Adeleye expressed deep concern about the alarming rate at which commercial motorcycle riders are being targeted by criminals, underscoring the urgent need to address this issue.

He further revealed that the majority of these attacks took place during the night in various locations across the state.

To combat this menace, the security outfit has initiated enforcement measures, including a ban on commercial motorcycle operations from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Additionally, as part of their efforts to tackle criminal activities, Adeleye announced that unregistered vehicles and vehicles with tinted windows lacking a police permit, traveling on the state’s roads, will be subject to impoundment.

“The ban from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for use of Okada and 6 p.m. remains in force as put in place by the government.

“Motorcycles that are not on ensential duties are not to ply the streets, except you’re on ensential duties.

“In the last three weeks, we have recorded over 20 Okada riders being killed. Also, their motorcycles were taken away. It is even risky to try to ride Okada at night.

“We want to appeal to Okada riders, if you have worked for 12 hours, please go and rest so that we can identify criminals more easily.”
