A group of irate soldiers allegedly attacked a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer in the Ojota area of Lagos State.

The attack, which took place at around 8 a.m., saw a group of eight soldiers unleashing a violent assault on the LASTMA officer, reportedly over a traffic-related offense.

Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted that the soldiers assaulted the LASTMA officer for several minutes, with the victim pleading for mercy as he was subjected to a barrage of punches and blows. A viral video capturing the assault has circulated widely, revealing the distressing incident in detail.

The shocking attack appeared to be a retaliatory measure, reportedly triggered by a previous incident where LASTMA officers were accused of assaulting a soldier in the same Ojota area. In response to this alleged assault on one of their own, the group of armed soldiers descended on the LASTMA officer in a display of aggression.

The video footage portrays a distressing scene, with one of the attackers repeatedly striking the LASTMA officer, causing him to fall to the ground. Amidst the chaos, other LASTMA officers present at the scene were seen fleeing to safety.

Following the attack, the injured LASTMA officer was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment due to his condition. Officials have confirmed the incident, with Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, condemning the assault as “totally condemnable.”
