Benue South Insecurity, economic development top agenda as Idoma Association USA 2026 convention kicks off this week

The Idoma Association USA has announced that insecurity and the economic development of Benue South will dominate discussions at its 30th anniversary convention scheduled to hold from July 30 to August 2, 2026, in Chesapeake, Virginia, United States.

The four-day convention, themed “Building Unity Through Accountable Leadership,” will bring together Idoma professionals, business leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders and members of the diaspora to deliberate on critical issues affecting the Idoma nation.

Speaking ahead of the event, the association’s President, Dr. Prince Edwin Ochai, described the convention as more than a celebration of the association’s three decades of existence, saying it would provide a platform for meaningful dialogue on the future of Benue South.

According to him, participants will examine the growing security concerns and economic challenges confronting the region while proposing practical solutions to improve the lives of the people.

“This convention is more than a celebration of our 30-year journey. It is an opportunity for us to unite, examine the security and economic challenges facing our homeland, and contribute ideas and resources that will improve the lives of our people,” he said.

He noted that discussions would focus on accountable leadership, youth empowerment, economic growth and diaspora investment, with participants expected to develop strategies for tackling insecurity and accelerating development in Benue South.

“For three decades, the Idoma Association USA has remained committed to preserving our heritage and supporting development back home. This year’s convention will focus on building unity through accountable leadership while addressing insecurity, youth empowerment and economic growth,” he stated.

Also speaking, the association’s General Secretary, Sylvester Onche Steno, called on Idoma sons and daughters across the United States and other parts of the world to actively participate in the convention.

He said the anniversary celebration presents an opportunity to strengthen unity among members, build stronger relationships and generate ideas that would positively impact the Idoma nation.

Founded in 1996, the Idoma Association USA promotes the welfare of Idoma people living in the diaspora while supporting development initiatives in Benue State.

The convention will feature leadership sessions, investment forums, networking events and cultural activities aimed at promoting peace, unity and sustainable economic development in Benue South.
