Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, has been officially renamed Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).

The change follows the enactment of a law by the Benue State House of Assembly, which was signed by the Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on December 30, 2024. The renaming, now legally in effect, honors the legacy and significant contributions of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu.

In a memorandum from the Office of the Registrar, the university’s management directed that all official communications, documents, and correspondence should henceforth reflect the new name.

The memo reads in part:

“The Management of the University hereby informs all Principal Officers, Deans/Directors, and Heads of Department that, following the passage and signing into law of the relevant legislation by His Excellency Reverend Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Benue State University, Makurdi, has been formally renamed Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).

This renaming aligns with the Benue State Government’s policy and is now fully in effect. The University remains committed to its mission of delivering quality tertiary education under its new identity.

Accordingly, all official communications and documentation should now bear the name Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).

The directive of the Management Committee on this matter is hereby conveyed for your implementation.”
