2027: Tinubu Appoints Okpokwu Ogenyi North Central Zonal Secretary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Benue-born political mobiliser, Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi, as Zonal Secretary, Support Groups Coordination, North Central Zone, in the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The appointment places Ogenyi among key officials expected to drive the mobilisation of support groups and strengthen the APC’s grassroots campaign machinery across the North Central geopolitical zone as President Tinubu seeks re-election.

Ogenyi, a seasoned political mobiliser from Benue State, has over the years been actively involved in coordinating civil society organisations and political support groups within the APC.

He previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the APC National Chairman on Civil Society and Support Groups, a position in which he was involved in building and coordinating support organisations for the party.

In March 2026, Ogenyi led the technical team of The Renewed Hope Network, TRN, alongside diplomat Prof. Tunji John Asaolu.

The network subsequently became a rallying platform for about 1,500 APC support groups working to mobilise Nigerians for President Tinubu’s re-election and strengthen the party’s structures at the polling-unit level across the country.

In his new role, Ogenyi is expected to work with other officials of the presidential campaign structure, including its Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, and the North Central Campaign Coordinator, Niger State Governor Umar Bago, in coordinating support groups and expanding grassroots mobilisation across the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The appointment is also expected to see Ogenyi deploy his experience, political networks and understanding of the region’s political terrain towards consolidating support for President Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.

Associates of the Benue politician have described the appointment as recognition of his years of loyalty, grassroots engagement and contribution to the party, expressing confidence that he would bring his experience in support-group coordination to bear on the campaign.
