BREAKING: Don’t invade Nigeria, we are behind them – China warns US, Trump

China has declared its strong support for the Nigerian government, saying it stands firmly behind Nigeria’s right to pursue a development path that aligns with its national priorities.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reaffirmed Beijing’s opposition to any form of external interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs.

“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly opposes the use of religion or human rights as a pretext to meddle in the domestic matters of other countries or to impose threats of sanctions and military force,” Mao said.

Her comments came in response to questions about recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, who threatened possible military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

Over the weekend, Trump directed the US Department of War to prepare for what he called “possible action” in Nigeria, accusing the government of failing to protect Christians.

“If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the United States will immediately halt all aid and may move in, guns blazing, to eliminate the terrorists behind these atrocities,” Trump said, branding Nigeria a “disgraced country.”
