One of the governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Paul Akintelure, is dead.

The late Akintelure had previously voiced concerns regarding various threats to his life, both direct and indirect. Despite hoping for an improvement in the situation, it sadly escalated as the date for the APC governorship primary election, scheduled for April 25, drew closer.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Oladapo Akintelure, on Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure expressed his dismay, saying, “Initially, I hoped these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life.”

“The threats against me only serve to strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I refuse to let fear dictate our path forward.”

He urged for peace, progress, and unity, emphasizing the importance of solidarity despite differences.

Paul Akintelure previously ran as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside Rotimi Akeredolu, the current Ondo State governor, in a race against Olusegun Mimiko, the then Labour Party flagbearer, who emerged victorious.

Before this, he contested in a senatorial election against the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, though he faced defeat.

A medical doctor by profession, Akintelure hailed from Igbotako in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
