Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has directed that the the 33 resident doctors earlier sacked by the management of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, be reinstated

President of the Association of Resident Doctors, Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, Dr Amina Japheth Onyewuchi, stated this in a press statement she issued and made available to newsmen in Makurdi

While commending Ortom for his prompt intervention, Dr Onyewuchi said that the association had given a 21-day ultimatum to the hospital management to embark on strike action.

She said based on their meeting with the governor and his subsequent intervention, the association decided to suspend the strike and toe the line of a peaceful resolution.

“Thank God, the governor has ordered the hospital management to withdraw the letters of expiration/termination of Residency Training issued to 33 of our members.

“Since Samuel Ortom came into office, there has never been any challenge confronting us that has not been solved by the governor starting from the implementation of our teaching allowances in 2017 to payment of our skipping arrears in 2019,” she said.
