The Nigeria police has recovered no fewer than four corpses and made 16 arrests in connection to last Friday’s crisis in Billiri, Billiri LGA, of Gombe State.

Recall that violence broke out in Billiri over the selection of new Mai Tangale last weekend.

The Gombe State Government made the announcement of the recovery of four corpses and arrest of 16 suspects on Monday.

The Gombe state government has commenced manhunt for the mastermind of the crisis.

Commissioner for Internal Security, Hon. Dauda Zambuk, who disclosed this at the end of enlarged security meeting with the Governor, security chiefs and chairmen of eleven local government areas, said 15 of the 16 suspects are to be arraigned while the 16th person, a security operative, is already under investigation.

Announcing the resolution at the end of the meeting to journalists in Gombe, Zambuk said the council expressed sadness over the senseless killings and destruction of properties that took place in Billiri and sent condolences to the affected families and victims.

According to him, an assessment team will be set up to determine the persons affected, properties destroyed and lives lost with a view to offering support to the victims.

He added in view of the severity of the attacks, government has taken proactive measures by engaging with religious groups and all other stakeholders with a view to averting reprisal attacks.

He said chairmen have been directed to put churches under security surveillance to forestall likely attacks by some unscrupulous elements.
