Hon. George Alli decries relocation of Otukpo main market over coronavirus pandemic

The immediate past Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Rt.Hon. George Alli has condemned the relocation and establishment of the Otukpo main market to Norcross Primary School, Otukpo.

Hon. Alli who was a guest at Joy FM, radio programme – Okonone, said he was not aware of the development and didn’t believe the story making the round until he visited the Market today. He said the establishment of a new market was a volition of the state government’s order that all markets in the state should be closed.

The former council boss said, “I read today on Facebook where the Acting Chairman denied knowledge of the existence of the market, I didn’t take any action concerning relocation or establishment of any Market before leaving office in December, 2019”

Speaking further, Hon. Alli said, “Currently I am not the chairman and therefore have no hand in the market relocation. I don’t know anything about it. I couldn’t have violated a clearly spelt order by the state governor, His Excellency, Chief. Samuel Ortom. No, I couldn’t have”.

The Former State state Lawmaker called for the disbandment of the market, stressing that the move could jeopardize state government’s effort to halt the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic. Chief. Alli called on the people to adhere strictly to all safety standard, saying that COVID-19, fearful and deadly..

Alli also commended Hon. Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo; Hon. Blessing Onub; Joseph Godwin Oche (G12 Foundation) and other public spirited individuals, for the provision of palliatives to vulnerable people in our midst.

Recall that Rt.Hon. George Alli, some weeks ago, personally disturbed hand sanitisers and cash donations to some residents of Otukpo, to cushion the effects of the Corona Virus pandemic.

The chairmanship hopeful also commended the the state government for it’s laudable and pragmatic steps taken so far in their quest for the containment of the pandemic.
