Residents of Akwa Ibom state are now living in a climate of fear following a horrifying incident on Wednesday night, wherein a police inspector named Osang was ruthlessly beheaded at his private residence situated between Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, suburban areas within the Uyo metropolis.

TheNation reported that a group of more than ten assailants carried out the gruesome attack. Eyewitnesses described moments of intense gunfire that prompted panic, causing residents and passersby to scramble for safety amid the chaos.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Mac-Don, confirmed the tragic event, expressing the profound sadness of the police command over the murder of the officer. Mac-Don termed the incident as highly unfortunate and assured the public that the police are actively investigating the case to ensure the perpetrators face justice.

Mac-Don stated, “We have received that information, and it is an unfortunate situation. Already, an investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements. Again, we are not deterred and are committed to ensuring that criminally minded persons will be held accountable for their actions.”

In the midst of the unsettling atmosphere, Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, issued a stern warning to criminals in the state during a gala night for service commanders transferred from the state and newly promoted Military Generals from Akwa Ibom. Governor Eno declared, “If criminals believe that Akwa Ibom State is a haven for them, I am warning them to stay away. We have credible intelligence that there are those among us… we will come after you, and we will use every layer of our intelligence available to track you.”
