I’m not a poor, desperate politician – Abba Moro says no one we chase him out of PDP
Abba Moro, the Senator representing Benue South and Senate Minority Leader, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he has no plans to defect.
He made the statement on Wednesday during a consultative meeting with the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), led by its Chairman, Kabiru Turaki.
Amid ongoing defections that have hit the opposition party since the beginning of the year, Moro stressed that he remains steadfast, insisting that neither pressure nor political intimidation would force him or other dedicated members to leave the PDP.
According to him, committed party members are driven by conviction rather than desperation.
“Many of us are not in politics out of desperation or personal survival. We are in the PDP because we believe in it, and we are here to stay. This party is not just a vehicle for winning elections, and we are not obsessed with 2027. No level of intimidation will drive us out,” he said.
Moro described the PDP as the most viable platform for democratic governance in Nigeria and called on the newly inaugurated NWC to work closely with party leaders nationwide to rebuild trust, unity, and internal cohesion.
With the national convention concluded, he said the responsibility of stabilising the party now rests squarely on the shoulders of the NWC, describing the task ahead as demanding but necessary.
In his response, Turaki said the party leadership is focused on renewal and repositioning.
He noted that the PDP’s mission goes beyond internal politics, adding that the party aims to protect Nigeria’s multiparty democracy and offer citizens a credible alternative ahead of future elections.
“The issue before us is not about defections. It is about the Nigerian people and the future of our democracy,” Turaki said.
He praised Moro and other PDP senators for their principled commitment, describing them as the backbone of the party.
Also speaking, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, applauded the successful conduct of the party’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, and pledged the BoT’s full support for the Turaki-led NWC.
