Kano High Court imposes death penalty on Sulaiman Abdullahi for 2017 homicide

A 27-year-old Nigerien, Sulaiman Abdullahi, has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Kano High Court for the 2017 murder of 30-year-old Yahya Badamasi.

Justice Nasiru Saminu presided over the court and found Suleiman guilty of culpable homicide, a violation of Section 221 (b) of the Penal Code Laws of Kano State 1991. Consequently, he was sentenced to death by hanging.

The convicted individual, hailing from Matamaye village in Niger Republic, was known to have a dispute with the deceased, who resided in Kofar Nassarawa Quarters, Kano.

The disagreement, which transpired on April 9, 2017, was over N700 and escalated into a physical altercation. The altercation culminated when the convict wielded a pair of scissors, stabbing the deceased in the neck.

Injured, Yahaya Badamasi was swiftly taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Subsequently, Abdullahi was apprehended by police officers from the Kwalli Division and later charged in court.
