The Kebbi State Government has raised alarm over the increasing spread of fake news, alleging that opposition elements are behind the development as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed, expressed the concern during an advocacy meeting with the 23 Special Assistants to Governor Nasir Idris on New Media in Zuru.

Ahmed alleged that some opposition figures had resorted to misinformation, fear-based narratives and what he called “barefaced lies” as political strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged the governor’s media aides to remain professional and proactive in countering false information while effectively communicating government policies, programmes and achievements to the public.

The commissioner said the meeting was part of a statewide advocacy tour aimed at strengthening the government’s communication strategy and improving engagement with residents.

He explained that the Zuru meeting marked the beginning of the tour, with similar sessions scheduled to take place in Argungu, Yauri and Birnin Kebbi.

Ahmed added that the initiative would enhance the capacity of the government’s media team to respond quickly to misinformation and promote effective public communication ahead of the 2027 general elections.
