The Lagos State Government has announced that Eko Bridge will be closed and traffic redirected starting September 16 for emergency repairs managed by the Federal Ministry of Works.

This closure is set to begin next Monday and will continue for eight weeks, with the bridge expected to reopen in the second week of November.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, provided details about the closure in a statement released on Friday.

He clarified that the repairs will be conducted in four phases, during which the bridge will be either fully or partially closed, depending on the specific stage of the work.

Therefore, Osiyemi urged motorists to use the following alternative routes during the repairs:

For those traveling to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue, can make use of the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain will allow access to Eko Bridge to continue their journeys.

Alternatively, drivers can head to the Island via Costain to connect with Eko Bridge and then Apongbon to reach their destinations.

Another option is to connect through Apongbon towards Eko Bridge and then link to Costain for access to Funsho Williams Avenue.

Motorists might also consider using Costain towards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or taking Apapa Road from Costain to reach Oyingbo and then Adekunle to connect with Third Mainland Bridge.

For those traveling to Surulere, the recommended route is via Costain to Breweries, then through Abebe Village to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.

Osiyemi also assured that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed at the affected areas and alternative routes to help reduce travel delays and minimize inconvenience.
