Messi speaks on his legendary rivalry with Ronaldo

Lionel Messi has opened up on his long-standing rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo, describing it as “a beautiful sporting rivalry” built on mutual respect and competition.

Speaking about their iconic years at FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF, Messi explained that comparisons between them were inevitable because they competed for every major trophy both collectively and individually.

“What happened was a beautiful sporting rivalry,” Messi said. “It’s something natural in the world of football. I was at Barcelona and he was at Real Madrid, and we were competing for everything, so people were always comparing us.”

The Argentine superstar also dismissed any idea of personal tension between the two football icons, insisting their relationship was always respectful despite the intense competition on the pitch.

“Our relationship was always good and respectful, and everything that happened was purely athletic. There was nothing personal,” he added.

Messi noted that they rarely met outside matches and award ceremonies, but whenever they did, they remained on good terms.
