Niger: Man commits suicide over N250,000 debt

In a heart-wrenching incident, a 30-year-old man named Saifullahi Salisu took his own life due to the burden of a debt amounting to N250,000 in his local community. The tragic event occurred in Shata, Maikunkele, in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State.

On Monday, Salisu was found hanging from a rope in his bedroom, leaving the residents of the area in shock and sorrow. The news of his suicide has spread distress and confusion among the community members.

According to Salisu’s girlfriend, Rebecca Musa, he had confided in her about his overwhelming debt and how people in the area were demanding the money from him. Disturbed and unable to see a way out, he mentioned that the issue was weighing heavily on him, leading to his desperate decision to end his life.

Described as a diligent young man with potential, Salisu’s tragic act has left his loved ones and neighbors devastated.

The Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and shared that the body was taken to the General Hospital’s morgue before being released to the family. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the suicide to better understand the factors that led to this heartbreaking outcome.
