Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has announced the commencement of monthly allowances for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state. The move, unveiled during the opening ceremony of the 2024 batch A orientation course, reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of youth participating in national service.

During the opening ceremony of the 2024 batch A orientation course at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia disclosed the implementation of monthly allowances for Corps Members serving in Benue State. This initiative, aimed at easing financial burdens and incentivizing service, marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to support its youth.

Under the new scheme, Corps doctors in Benue State are entitled to a monthly allowance of one hundred thousand naira (#100,000), while other Corps Members will receive fifteen thousand naira (#15,000) per month. This move has been widely applauded by Corps Members, who view it as a demonstration of Governor Alia’s dedication to their well-being and the progress of the state.

Interacting with newsmen in Wannune, several Corps Members expressed their gratitude for the governor’s proactive approach to welfare issues, describing him as a beacon of hope for all Nigerians. Many lauded his responsiveness to their needs and his commitment to fostering an environment conducive to growth and development.

Beyond addressing immediate financial concerns, the implementation of monthly allowances is expected to have long-term benefits for the state’s healthcare sector. By reviving initiatives like the Benue Indigenous Medical Students Bond Scheme and providing stipends for Corps doctors, Governor Alia aims to tackle manpower challenges in hospitals across the state.

Furthermore, incentivizing Corps Members to serve in Benue State not only strengthens healthcare services but also contributes to the state’s overall development agenda. By investing in the future generation of healthcare professionals, Governor Alia is laying the groundwork for a more robust and efficient healthcare system.

The announcement of the allowance initiative has sparked optimism among Corps Members, who believe it will not only alleviate financial burdens but also boost morale and productivity. Additionally, it is seen as a symbol of progress and inclusivity, reaffirming the government’s commitment to nurturing young talents and creating opportunities for growth.
