Troops of Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recovered a locally made firearm, ammunition and suspected illicit drugs during an operation in Benue State.

Military sources disclosed that the troops, stationed in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area, responded to a distress call over suspicious activities in the area at about 8:00 a.m. on June 13.

Upon arriving at the location, the suspect reportedly fled after spotting the troops.

During a search of the area, the soldiers recovered a locally fabricated pistol, two cartridges, and several packs of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, alongside other items.

The recovered exhibits have been taken into military custody for further investigation and necessary action.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Whirl Stroke to combat criminal activities and strengthen security across communities affected by insecurity in Benue State and the wider North-Central region.
