PDP crisis: Obaseki calls for action against Wike

Dr. Pedro Obaseki, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Director of Research and Documentation for the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), has called for disciplinary action against former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Obaseki accuses Wike of being a serial betrayer, alleging that he led a group of five governors who engaged in various anti-party activities during the February 25 presidential election.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Obaseki stated, “Wike coming out to demand the expulsion of the party’s top leader, the presidential flagbearer, and the recipient of the Nigerian people’s mandate as declared by INEC, with the assertion that we won in 21 states and calling for Atiku’s expulsion from the party, means that Wike has crossed a significant boundary and should be prepared for consequences.”

He continued, “He has substantial resources to fight back, but we are going to confront him resolutely. He has initiated a conflict, and we will not stand by idly as he disregards the party and the majority of Nigerians, just as he did during his eight years as governor of Rivers State.”

Obaseki further challenged Wike to disclose his bank account details both at the beginning of his tenure as governor and after his eight years in office.

He asserted, “Wike is a member of the APC, a Minister in the APC government. Wike openly campaigned against the PDP. By his actions, it is clear that Wike is not a genuine member of the PDP.”

Obaseki reminded, “Just a few months before the election, Nyesom Wike, then the Governor of Rivers State, went to court to obtain an injunction to prevent the PDP from expelling him from the party. If he was as invulnerable and influential as he claims, why would he take such legal action? Whether we like it or not, Wike is aligned with opposing forces.”

He concluded, “Perhaps this is why some party leaders hesitated to take appropriate action. While many of them advocate for peace, not everyone is as aggressive as Wike. Let’s see if he will reconsider his stance. The PDP is not a party of troublemakers.”
