Plateau youth leader ambushed after speaking out on community killings
The President of the Dorowa Babuje Youth Council in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Pam Fom, was reportedly ambushed and shot by suspected Fulani militias on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, barely a day after he publicly condemned the killing of two youths in his community.
Conflict journalist Masara Kim Usman disclosed the attack in a Facebook post on Thursday, revealing that Fom was attacked while travelling to a neighbouring community shortly after granting him an interview in which he condemned Tuesday’s assault on Dorowa Babuje.
“So I interviewed this youth leader on an attack that killed two members of his community near Jos yesterday, and today he was shot by the same Fulani terrorist,” Usman wrote.
In the interview, Fom alleged that the attackers concealed themselves among cattle before opening fire on two youths riding a motorcycle, killing both of them. He further claimed that the gunmen later stormed a nearby mining site, where they shot at miners, leaving several people injured.
Fom had urged the government and security agencies to strengthen protection for residents, warning that if authorities failed to safeguard the community, local youths might be forced to defend themselves, including by taking up arms.
Barely 24 hours after making those remarks, Fom was reportedly ambushed by suspected assailants, who shot him and left him for dead.
Another youth leader, Titus Badung, also confirmed the incident in a social media post.
“The community youth leader of Dorowa Babuje, Mr Pam Fom, who was interviewed yesterday by award-winning conflict reporter Masara Kim Usman following the killing of two youths from his community, has reportedly been shot today.
“He was attacked just a day after speaking about the earlier killings that had plunged the community into mourning,” Badung wrote.
Authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of this report, and the circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear.
