Police forces engaged suspected bandits in a fierce firefight, thwarting their kidnapping attempt, and in the process, managed to rescue the abducted victim. This operation took place in Katsina State and resulted in the recovery of motorcycles, as well as rustled livestock.

According to ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesperson for the Katsina Command, the incident unfolded when a distress call was received at around 2:30 AM at the Kankara divisional headquarters. The call alerted them to the movement of suspected bandits who had abducted a 65-year-old man named Hashim Yusuf from Hayin Gada, Malumfashi LGA.

Swiftly responding to this intelligence, police operatives positioned themselves near Ruwan Lafiya village, along the Kankara Sheme road in Kankara LGA. There, they confronted a heavily armed group of bandits equipped with AK-47 rifles. The bandits were attempting to flee the area, holding their victim hostage.

The ensuing confrontation escalated into a courageous gunfight, with the police exhibiting remarkable bravery to ensure the safety of the captive. Eventually, they overwhelmed the bandits and successfully rescued the victim without harm.

In the aftermath of the operation, ASP Sadiq revealed that a search of the scene yielded 94 cows, 17 sheep, and two motorcycles. As the police continue to scour the nearby bushes for potential evidence of incapacitated bandits, it was confirmed that the criminals fled with gunshot wounds sustained during the confrontation.

CP Aliyu Musa, the Katsina Police Commissioner, extended commendation to the officers for their dedication and commitment to duty. He also urged the citizens of the state to maintain vigilance and promptly report individuals exhibiting gunshot wounds to the nearest police divisional headquarters for necessary follow-up actions.
