Resident Doctors begin 7-day warning strike nationwide

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has launched a seven-day warning strike to advocate for the release of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a NARD member who has been held captive for over eight months IDOMA VOICE reports.
NARD President, Dr. Dele Abdullahi, announced the strike in a statement to the press, confirming that it will begin at midnight on Monday, August 26, 2024.
The decision was made during an Emergency National Executive Council meeting held virtually on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Abdullahi stressed that the strike would be comprehensive, with no emergency services provided during this time.
Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, was abducted nearly eight months ago along with her husband and nephew. While her husband was released in March, both Popoola and her nephew remain in captivity.
Recently, NARD members held protests at tertiary hospitals across the country, demanding Dr. Popoola’s immediate release.
