Six senior NSCDC officers in EFCC net over N6bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended six senior officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on suspicion of involvement in a N6 billion fraud scheme.

Currently undergoing intensive interrogation at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, these officers were handed over to EFCC operatives on Monday, reportedly at the directive of NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi.

While the specifics of the investigation remain unclear, sources close to the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, had previously penned a letter to the NSCDC Commandant General, requesting the officers’ transfer for questioning.

“Six senior NSCDC officers are presently in our custody, facing intense questioning from our investigators regarding alleged fraudulent activities amounting to over N6 billion,” one source revealed.

In confirmation, another source emphasized, “The EFCC’s focus is solely on these six senior NSCDC officers; there is no investigation or arrest involving the NSCDC CG. We requested their presence based on credible suspicions of involvement in a significant fraud case.”

Efforts to reach the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, for official comments were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his phone remained unanswered.

When approached for a response, NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi stated, “I’m not aware of this,” in a brief WhatsApp message to our correspondent on Monday.
