The incident happened on Thursday night when the kidnappers hijacked a Toyota Carina II and forced its occupants into the bush near an abandoned civil defence checkpoint.

Military sources said the rescue operation was carried out following a tip-off, with troops supported by a Keystone security team storming the area.

Those rescued include the driver, Mr. Terna Gbaya, 43; Mr. Musa Adamu, 55; Mrs. Rose Sor, 35; Mrs. Lydia Vyiashima, 40; Mrs. Comfort Iyofar, 60; and a child.

Search operations are still ongoing in the general area to rescue other abducted passengers and track down the attackers.
