The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is well positioned to win the 2027 general elections, citing party unity, strong grassroots backing, and a consensus-based approach as key strengths.

State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, spoke in Abakaliki after several aspirants picked up their expression of interest and nomination forms. He dismissed concerns about internal rifts, insisting the party remains united and focused on securing victories across all constituencies.

Emegha described recent tensions as the result of “overzealousness” by a few individuals, noting that such actions do not reflect the party’s overall leadership stance.

“Sometimes, overzealousness can push individuals beyond their limits, but it does not undermine our unity. We are one family, and our decisions are guided by the collective interest of the people,” he said.

He explained that the adoption of consensus candidates followed wide consultations with stakeholders at ward, local government, and state levels, describing the process as inclusive and democratic.

According to him, the leadership of the party under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru ensured that all interests were considered before reaching decisions aimed at strengthening cohesion and boosting electoral success.

Emegha stressed that all APC candidates in Ebonyi would receive collective backing, noting that elections are a shared responsibility within the party.

“No candidate stands alone. Every ticket belongs to all of us. We will work together to secure victory because our success reflects our connection with the people,” he added.

He also expressed optimism that the party’s performance in governance, along with its commitment to peace and development, would appeal to voters and give it an advantage in 2027.

Some aspirants who supported the consensus arrangement reaffirmed their commitment, describing it as a strategic move to reduce internal conflict and promote unity.

Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District and serving as Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, said the consensus model aligns with the Electoral Act and reflects the collective will of party members.

He noted that consensus candidacy, when broadly accepted, is a legitimate democratic option that saves time and resources while strengthening party cohesion.

Nwebonyi highlighted his achievements in office, including road projects, educational infrastructure, empowerment initiatives, and facilitating federal appointments, while pledging continued effective representation.

He also urged party members, especially young people, to embrace purposeful leadership and prioritise public service over personal gain.

Other aspirants, including Senator Anthony Ani Ebonyi South, and House of Representatives members Chinedu Ogah Ikwo/Ezza South and Joseph Nwobashi Ezza North/Ishielu), called on party members to remain united as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

They expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious at the polls.
