Why I retired at age 32 – Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard, the former winger for Chelsea and Real Madrid, has shed light on his decision to retire from professional football. The 32-year-old Belgian recently announced his retirement, concluding his illustrious 15-year career after departing from Real Madrid in the summer.
Hazard’s time at Real Madrid was marred by injury woes, but he made a significant impact during his seven-year stint at Chelsea from 2012 to 2019. During his tenure with the Blues, he netted 110 goals and provided 92 assists in 352 matches across various competitions.
Hazard also played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s success, securing two Premier League titles, two Europa League trophies, the FA Cup, and the League Cup. Nonetheless, he has revealed that his desire to continue playing football had waned, ultimately influencing his decision to retire.
“I always said that I would stop playing as soon as I no longer had fun on the field. I didn’t want to go play somewhere for the money.
“I didn’t enjoy training anymore… and I didn’t play anymore. The decision was simple,” Hazard told French outlet L’Avenir (via EuroFoot).
