YouTube removes SCOAN’s Emmanuel TV amid allegations against TB Joshua
YouTube has taken down the primary channel of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), an American social media platform. This action follows allegations of sexual assault against the late founder of the church, TB Joshua.
The church’s religious activities were broadcasted on Emmanuel TV, which has now been removed from YouTube. The controversy surrounding TB Joshua intensified after his death on June 5, 2021, leading to a BBC investigation that featured interviews with approximately 30 former members and workers of the Synagogue.
YouTube cited a violation of its hate speech policies as the reason for terminating the flagged channel. The platform explicitly prohibits harassment against survivors of sexual violence and cyberbullying.
In a related development, Emmanuel TV, owned by SCOAN, has announced its withdrawal from MultiChoice platforms, including DStv and GOtv. MultiChoice confirmed that starting from January 17, 2024, Emmanuel TV will no longer be accessible on their packages. Established in 2006 by TB Joshua, Emmanuel TV gained popularity globally through its YouTube channel, becoming one of the most subscribed Christian ministry channels.
