No fewer than 10 persons were confirmed killed and about 60 injured when Boko Haram insurgents attacked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Tuesday evening.

IDOMA VOICE earlier reported that the terrorists on Tuesday launched multiple missiles into Maiduguri and engaged the military at the outskirt of the town.

It was also learnt that the missiles landed in Gwange, Bulabulin, Adam Kolo, and Molai areas of Maiduguri town leaving many feared dead. Sources say some of the Jihadist fighters also infiltrated the town and engaged security operatives behind the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Report says that nine of the 10 dead victims were young boys hit by a bomb while playing football at Gwange ward.

Babagana Zulum, Governor of the State confirmed the attack and has also visited some of the hospitals where the injured are receiving medical treatment.

“We have been informed that about 10 persons were killed and 60 were injured. This is a new form of attack, totally different from the usual suicide bombing. It is worrisome and there is an urgent need to strategise to forestall further occurrence,” the governor said.

Zulum expressed sadness over the incident and sympathised with those affected. He also assured them that the government would provide care for them.
