At least 11 people have been feared killed in Ibadan on Friday morning as rival gangs clashed in the Oopo, Inalende and Abebi areas of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Though Adewale Osifeso the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, could not authenticate the number of casualties, he confirmed the incident, saying investigation is ongoing.

“The story is true. Investigation is ongoing to establish the number of casualties and circumstances that led to the incident.

“Meanwhile, additional operatives have been deployed to the scene to maintain law and order. You would be updated in due course, please,” Osifeso said.

It was, however, gathered that members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) had mobilised for a reprisal attack on youths in the areas, to avenge an earlier attack on their members by the youths.

Four OPC members were said to have been killed, while OPC killed seven of the youths in the Oopo area.

A neighbour of one of the victims said, “As I speak with you, the OPC has begun to mobilise their members to attack the Oopo youths again.

“In fact, we heard they have told police to steer clear of the area.”
