A governorship aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Benue State, Peter Adejoh, has declared that the “journey to rescue Benue” has officially begun ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adejoh made the declaration on Thursday shortly after picking his expression of interest and nomination forms at the ADC national headquarters amid cheers from supporters and party loyalists.

The governorship hopeful said his ambition is driven by the desire to reposition the state through transparent leadership, economic reforms and inclusive governance.

According to him, Benue State deserves a new direction capable of transforming the lives of the people and restoring confidence in governance.

“The journey to rescue Benue has begun,” Adejoh stated while addressing supporters after obtaining the forms.

He expressed confidence in his chances in the forthcoming governorship election, insisting that his administration would prioritize accountability, good governance and people-oriented policies.

Adejoh also unveiled aspects of his proposed agenda, which he said would focus on security, healthcare, education and local government autonomy.

The ADC aspirant noted that insecurity remains one of the major challenges facing the state, stressing that his administration would adopt community-based strategies and strengthen collaboration with security agencies to protect lives and property.

He further promised to build a self-reliant economy by harnessing the state’s agricultural and mineral resources to improve internally generated revenue and create employment opportunities.

According to him, Benue has remained underdeveloped despite its enormous economic potential as the food basket of the nation.

Adejoh also assured residents that his government would be inclusive and fair to all ethnic groups and senatorial districts in the state.

“I’m going to be a governor for Benue State. I’m not going to be an Idoma governor, Tiv governor, Igede governor or Etulo governor,” he said.

“There will be even distribution of wealth across the three senatorial districts of Benue State.”

The governorship hopeful also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to remain truly independent ahead of the 2027 elections, warning against any attempt to undermine multi-party democracy in the country.

Supporters at the event described Adejoh as a credible alternative capable of providing the leadership needed to reposition Benue State for growth and development.
