84-year-old man beheaded by suspected mentally challenged man in Ogun

In the community of Ipara, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, a tragic incident unfolded as a man suspected to be mentally challenged brutally beheaded 84-year-old Elder Alfred Opadipe. The shocking act took place on Friday morning, leaving the town in a state of confusion.

The suspect behind the gruesome act was identified as 32-year-old David Shodola. As authorities attempted to apprehend him, he violently resisted arrest, attacking police officers with a machete. The confrontation resulted in the suspect’s demise.

Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omotola Odutola, confirmed the tragic event on Friday evening. She explained that a distress call from an informant led the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Bankole Isara Eluyeru and his team to the scene.

During the arrest attempt, the suspect fiercely resisted, using the machete against the DPO and his team. The officers had no choice but to neutralize the suspect, and in the process, they recovered the weapon from him.

The police spokesperson clarified that there was no indication that the suspect was a madman based on the intelligence gathered by the police. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning over the loss of Elder Alfred Opadipe.
