the Enugu State Police Command arrested Somadina Orji for the alleged murder of his mother, Mrs Charity Orji, and sister, Miss Ukamaka Orji.

The victims were reportedly buried in a shallow grave in their garden.

The suspect, Somadina Orji of Igboariam in Anambra State, was said to have perpetrated the crime on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Umuagu Inyi in the Oji River Local Government Area.

According to multiple accounts and video footage of the occurrence, the late Charity, who was born in Inyi but married in Igboariam, Anambra State, had been living in her family home with her children for many years.

The report said that her son, who allegedly deals in narcotics and has been feuding with her for some time over his behaviour, chose to murder her.

Community leader Mr Ben Obi shed light on the escalating tensions, revealing that the suspect’s clashes with family members, especially his younger brother, began several weeks ago.

DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Sunday. The suspect is in custody, and investigations are underway.

Ndukwe assured that the suspect would be prosecuted once the investigations are completed.

“The suspect has been arrested, and the case is under investigation. The suspect would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded,” he said.
