Super Falcons move down two places in latest FIFA ranking

Nigeria’s Super Falcons experienced a slight dip in the latest FIFA women’s rankings for 2024, dropping two places from 32nd to 34th globally. Despite this decline, Randy Waldrum’s squad maintained their status as the top-ranked team in Africa, a testament to their dominance on the continent.

The Super Falcons have had limited activity this year, participating in only two matches. They secured a goalless draw against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in Douala and emerged victorious with a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture, showcasing their resilience and competitive spirit.

Looking ahead, the Super Falcons are gearing up to face off against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the final qualifying round for the 2024 Olympic Games scheduled for next month. South Africa, currently ranked second in Africa, saw a slight improvement in their global ranking, moving up one spot to 51st.

Elsewhere on the continent, Morocco holds the third position in Africa while occupying the 58th spot globally. Zambia’s Copper Queens made significant progress, climbing five places to 65th position.

At the top of the rankings, world champions Spain maintain their position as the global leaders, showcasing the competitive landscape of women’s football on the international stage.
