Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is nearing an agreement to become the new head coach of the USA men’s national team. Negotiations are in advanced stages, with Pochettino identified as the top choice to lead the team through the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States.
Despite receiving multiple offers from clubs in England and Europe, Pochettino is leaning towards accepting the USA role. The 52-year-old Argentine has yet to manage a national team, but his extensive club experience makes him a compelling candidate.
Pochettino’s managerial accolades include leading Southampton to early success, taking Tottenham to their first Champions League final in 2019, and securing a Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
Once the deal is confirmed, Pochettino will work alongside US Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker, with whom he previously collaborated at Southampton. Their prior working relationship is expected to ensure a smooth transition.
