The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported the arrest of 823 drivers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for traffic light violations.

In a statement on Friday, FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide disclosed that the corps issued 923 fines, impounded 189 vehicles, and confiscated 634 licenses and vehicle documents for offenses related to traffic lights, zebra crossings, and other violations in Abuja.

These arrests occurred during special enforcement operations that began on September 2, 2024.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, had earlier inaugurated “Operation Karara,” a special patrol aimed at reducing traffic light and zebra crossing violations, which contribute significantly to accidents and gridlocks in the nation’s capital.

The operation seeks to enforce traffic rules, conduct public education, and collaborate with other security agencies to improve traffic management in Abuja. The Corps Marshal emphasized that traffic light violations are a leading cause of road accidents and must be curbed through legal and operational measures.
