Edo Decides: Police arrest thugs, recover weapons

The Nigeria Police Force has made a significant stride in combating electoral violence in Edo State with the arrest of two political thugs.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday in Abuja, the arrested individuals were identified as Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, a member of the PDP from Ugbogbo Quarters in Igara Akoko, Edo.

The arrests were made following a tip-off regarding individuals armed and prepared to instigate violence during the upcoming election on Saturday. Police operatives acted swiftly, apprehending Obanor, a leader of an armed group, at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 PM, and Tajudeen in Igara Akoko on the eve of the election.

Upon searching their bags, officers found three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols with Obanor and one locally made gun with Tajudeen.

The statement emphasized that “these arrests underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The police and supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorder during the elections in Edo State.”

The suspects are currently in custody and will face the full consequences of the law. The police reassured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through their published hotlines.
