In a statement, the police said officers responded to a report of a shooting at the terminal on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Investigations revealed that both the victim and the suspect boarded a GO bus at the terminal, where the suspect allegedly opened fire on Irorere before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police officers who arrived at the location found Irorere with a gunshot wound. Despite attempts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was later tracked down and arrested, and a firearm was recovered.

Authorities identified the victim as Osemwengie Irorere, a 46-year-old Nigerian national. Gibson has been charged with first-degree murder and was scheduled to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The killing comes less than two weeks after another Nigerian, John Onetufo, was murdered in the Lewisham area of London on New Year’s Eve. Onetufo was reportedly stabbed in the chest following a distress call to the police. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by paramedics.

The United Kingdom’s Metropolitan Police later confirmed that one of the suspects arrested in connection with Onetufo’s death has since been charged to court.
