Atiku’s son Abba expelled for defecting to APC, backing Tinubu for second term
Abba, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has been expelled from the pro-Atiku group, Atiku Haske Organisation, following his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mai Bakari, convener of the group, disclosed the expulsion in a statement on Sunday, emphasizing that Abba has no authority to determine the political direction of the organisation.
The move comes after Abba’s defection on Thursday, when he instructed coordinators and members of his political structure to immediately join the APC and mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
Reacting to this, Bakari said Abba is neither the founder nor originator of the Atiku Haske Organisation and therefore cannot speak for its members.
“We founded the Atiku Haske Organisation and only invited Abba to join. He has neither contributed financially to our activities nor holds the certificate of registration of the group. As such, we are under no obligation to follow any directive from him,” Bakari stated.
He added, “Abba is subject to our regulations and has clearly fallen short of expectations. He has therefore been expressly dismissed as a member. The Atiku Haske Organisation will not follow him in defecting to any political party outside our collective decision. We remain committed to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), having moved en masse from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
Earlier, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who recently joined the ADC to pursue his 2027 presidential ambition, described his son’s defection as a personal decision.
