A New Benue Beckons as Dr Peter Adejoh Declares for 2027 Governorship, Unveils 12-Point Agenda
A new political chapter may be unfolding in Benue State following the formal declaration of Dr Peter Adejoh to contest the 2027 governorship election, with the aspirant unveiling an ambitious 12-point development agenda aimed at repositioning the state.
Speaking during his official declaration, Adejoh said his decision to join the race was driven by the urgent need to restore security, revive agriculture, empower youths and rebuild the economic foundations of Benue.
According to him, the state stands at a critical crossroads and requires visionary leadership capable of unlocking its vast potential.
“This is more than a campaign; it is a rescue mission for our beloved Benue,” Adejoh said, stressing that the time had come for bold reforms that would place the welfare of citizens at the centre of governance.
At the heart of his proposed agenda is the restoration of security across the state, particularly in rural communities that have been affected by persistent attacks and displacement of farmers. Adejoh noted that without peace and safety, development would remain elusive.
“Security is the cornerstone of prosperity; without peace, there can be no progress,” he stated, adding that his administration would deploy modern technology and community-based security structures to ensure that farmers can safely return to their lands.
Beyond security, the governorship hopeful outlined plans to transform Benue’s agricultural sector through the establishment of agro-industrial hubs, modern farming techniques and improved access to markets.
While describing Benue as the “Food Basket of the Nation,” Adejoh said the state must move beyond subsistence agriculture to value addition and agro-industrial development.
“We will not just produce food; we will process, package and export prosperity,” he declared.
The aspirant also promised a strong focus on youth empowerment, announcing plans for large-scale skills acquisition programmes, entrepreneurship support and technology-driven opportunities aimed at creating jobs and reducing unemployment.
According to him, Benue’s young population represents the state’s greatest asset.
“Our youth are not a problem to be solved; they are Benue’s greatest resource,” he said.
Other pillars of his 12-point agenda include strengthening local government autonomy, promoting small and medium-scale enterprises, improving healthcare access, revamping education, harnessing solid mineral resources and expanding infrastructure to connect rural communities with economic opportunities.
Adejoh further pledged to run an inclusive government that would give women and youths greater participation in leadership and decision-making.
He emphasised that good governance must be people-centred, transparent and accountable.
“Government exists to serve the people, not the other way around,” he said.
