Friends of late retired broadcast journalist Kitan Oyesiku have appealed to the Ogun State Government, the state police command and other relevant security and justice agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for her murder and ensure they face justice.

Oyesiku, a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), was brutally killed alongside her security guard at her residence in the Kobape area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, had disclosed that Oyesiku’s body was found inside her apartment, while the corpse of her security guard was discovered at the security post. He also confirmed that her Lexus RX300 SUV was initially missing and that an investigation had commenced.

On Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and to review the progress of the ongoing investigation.

During the visit, Ojajuni inspected the premises and received updates from detectives handling the case. He reaffirmed the command’s determination to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killings and ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted.

The police commissioner also revealed that the missing Lexus RX300 had been recovered during a night operation, assuring residents that intensive investigations were ongoing and that all available resources were being deployed to track down the perpetrators.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Oluwaseun Boye, the Friends of Kitan Oyesiku described the deceased as a peaceful, kind-hearted and compassionate woman whose life was cut short in a cruel and senseless manner.

The group insisted that her murder must not be swept under the carpet, stressing that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done.

They also commended the Ogun State Police Command for the progress made so far and urged investigators to sustain the momentum until every individual connected to the crime is identified, arrested and prosecuted.

Part of the statement read: “Following our public appeal yesterday urging anyone with useful information to come forward, we once again call on the Ogun State Government, the Ogun State Police Command and all relevant security and justice stakeholders to intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic killing of our dear friend, Kitan Oyesiku.

“Kitan was a peaceful, kind-hearted and compassionate woman whose life was cut short in a cruel and senseless manner. She did not deserve such a painful end. Her death has left her family, friends and everyone who knew her devastated.

“We respectfully appeal to the Ogun State Government and all relevant authorities not to allow Kitan’s murder to be swept under the carpet. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. Bringing the perpetrators to justice will reassure the public that no life is insignificant and that criminal acts of this nature will not go unpunished.

“We also renew our appeal to members of the public: if you know something, please say something. Any credible information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be the breakthrough investigators need to ensure justice for Kitan.”

The friends expressed confidence that the truth would prevail and that everyone involved in the killings would eventually be brought to justice.
