Some of the youths arrested in connection with the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, have regained their freedom after weeks in police custody.

The release comes amid growing calls by parents, community leaders and other stakeholders for the police to either prosecute or free the detained suspects.

Although some of the suspects have now been released, the Benue State Police Command is yet to disclose the outcome of its investigation into the murder or state whether those still in custody will be charged to court.

The release followed sustained interventions by prominent individuals and political leaders who reportedly engaged security authorities over the matter.

Among those acknowledged for their efforts are the member representing Enone Federal Constituency, Barr. Aida Nath Ogwuche; legal practitioner, Barr. Dino Idoko; Meddy Olotu; the Chairmen of Otukpo, Ohimini and Agatu Local Government Areas; the member representing Ohimini State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly; Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji; Rt. Hon. Lami Danladi; Mr. Michael Obeya; Hon. Ada Mark Ogbole, and others.

The suspects were arrested following the killing of Ardo Risku, who was shot dead alongside another man shortly after attending a peace meeting in Otukpo.

As of the time of filing this report, the police have yet to issue an official statement on the latest development or provide an update on the status of the investigation.
