The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has condemned the killing of its Benue State Chairman, Alhaji Ardo Risku, describing the incident as a “heinous act” and demanding that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.

In a statement issued by the association’s National President, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, MACBAN expressed shock and sadness over the murder of the Benue chairman and his friend, calling for an immediate, thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

According to the association, Alhaji Ardo Risku had attended a security meeting convened by the Ohimini Local Government authorities to discuss issues affecting peace and security in the area.

MACBAN said reports reaching its national headquarters indicated that barely an hour after the meeting, the late chairman and his friend were allegedly accosted at Okudu village, where they were attacked and shot multiple times.

The association described the incident as a “dastardly and deeply disturbing act,” noting that the circumstances surrounding the killing raise serious concerns about possible premeditation.

“It is particularly troubling that a community leader who attended a security meeting meant to promote peace and stability could allegedly become a victim shortly after,” the statement read.

MACBAN also expressed concern over reports that one of the deceased chairman’s children, a lawyer, was allegedly attacked in a village only a week earlier, saying the incidents warranted a comprehensive investigation by security agencies.

The association urged security authorities to immediately unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing, identify those responsible and ensure they face justice.

“Those behind this heinous act must be brought to justice,” the association stated, warning that the killing of community leaders and peace advocates poses a serious threat to ongoing efforts aimed at reconciliation, dialogue and peaceful coexistence among communities.

MACBAN said those seeking to destabilise society through violence must not be allowed to succeed.

The association extended its condolences to the family of the late Alhaji Ardo Risku, the leadership and members of MACBAN in Benue State, and all those affected by the tragic incident.
